Ann Middlebrough is the Volunteer Captain for the electorate of Isaacs. Ann has been with WSPA as a volunteer for the last 7 months and in this short space of time has done some incredible work. Here is a short interview we had with Ann:
How did you first become involved with WSPA?
I have been a financial supporter for many years, but when I heard about the Move Forward campaign, (to lobby the Labor Party on the live export issue ahead of their tri-annual conference), I just jumped at it
What were you able to achieve during the Move Forward campaign?
I gained 1,000 signatures, I featured in my local newspaper in a story about my activities to highlight the alternatives to live export and I visited my Federal MP, Mark Dreyfus.
What WSPA activities do you get involved in now?
I am a committed letter writer and have written several letters, back and forth with my MP.
Why do you write so many letters?
I think it extremely important to follow up my letters to keep the lines of communication open and I can educate my MP on the alternatives to live export. I think my letters make them think and I am trying to show that it can be a better financial option for farmers and Australia if we processed the animals here.
Do you encourage others to write letters?
Absolutely, both people in my electorate and outside as well.
What was it like visiting your Federal MP
Mr Dreyfus was nice and very approachable. I would encourage others to visit their Federal MP. It’s not as scary as you might think! I think the follow up is the most important thing though. We don’t want them to think that we have forgotten about the welfare of millions of Australian animals that are being exported live.
