On the 25th June 2011, the WA Labor Party passed a motion that will have significant long term benefits for Australian jobs in rural and regional areas and for animal welfare. Last week, Prime Minister Julia Gillard attended a Community Cabinet meeting at South Fremantle High School. On Wednesday 10th November at 10.15am, a public hearing will be held by the Environment and Public Affairs Committee into a petition tabled by People Against Cruelty in Animal Transport (now called Stop Live Exports). The petition asks that the Legislative Council investigates the trade with a view to recommending a timeframe within which it can be permanently discontinued.
